Why take them off their trucks? Couldn’t one simply hook them to a locomotie and take them to CO?
Enough of those %#@ bike trails already.
The F units are being scrapped as the wheels are worn beyond repair and most of the electrics are in great need of replacement. The engines are shot, worn out! The cost of repairs would be much, much more than could ever be recovered even if they could be put back into service. Also, the rails on the line were/are totally worn out as the flanges of the F units had been digging into the angle bars and have worn most of the flange bolts almost half way through.
The wheels on the coach cars are also worn out, hence the loading of them on flatcars for transport without the trucks. No class 1 railroad would transport them on their original trucks in train.
There was a previous story about the F units. They’re going to be scrapped. Sad, indeed.
This can’t be a positive use of historical artifacts. What a blown chance.
