Mintrix Wheel Cleaning Brush Question...

Hi gang. I’m thinking about buying a Mintrix brass wheel cleaning brush but before I do I wanted to check and see what you guys had to say about it. It’s the type that you put on a powered track and you hold your locomotive down on the brushes which cleans the black goop off the wheels.

Speaking from an HO perspective, you require two for long locomotives, otherwise a big [tup]

Very highly recommended. I don’t know that you need two. Hold the engine with one truck engaging the brass brushes and just let the other truck hang over the end. Swap ends and repeat. Simple.

With diesels you probably don’t, Robert, but two are very useful for large steam locomotives.

Bear,One can be used on long wheel base engines. You’ll just need to relocated the engine.

For years I had used the Kadee hand held wheel cleaner (DC track power) on older Atlas and Kato engines. Athearn sintered wheels are somewhat indestructable. The brush is a bit too abrasive and over time started to thin and remove the nickle silver plating to show brass. Now i will only clean locomotive wheels by running the truck/ wheels on an alcohol wetted paper towel laid on the track. Does a much better job and no wear to finish.
