MinuteMan iCar

ANyone have one of these? It’s a car that fits an iPhone and you cna coupel it in your train to get videos of the layout. I just got mine today, started on the prep work before assembling. It’s a laser-cut wood kit with Kadee trucks and couplers included, plus a mirror (the phone sits lengthwise, so the mirrow reflects the track ahead (or behind) into the camera lens).

I haven’t built much with laser-cut wood, just the little park benches I posted a while back, plus two tools I got with my Fast Tracks stuff, the handle for the PointForm allen wrench and the TieBreaker. This is a tiny bit more complex, but I’ve got the main body all cleaned upa nd I did a test fit and it actually goes together pretty easily. Key will be making sure it’s all square, but I have a machinist’s square and a magnetic plate to hold it all square. The instructions I’ve already read through twice, it’s pretty straightforward.

My goal is to have this ready for the show starting July 3 so I can get some in-train video on the club layout. There are a few samples on YouTube already, and it looks like you can get some good views parking it behind the loco or right in front of the caboose, besides the obvious put it out in front of the loco method. Looking forward just in front of the caboose gives a really neat brakeman in the cupola view of the train.

Still not sure if I just want to seal the wood with clear, or actually paint the thing. MOW yellow maybe…

That’s cool!

To quote somebody from a long time ago “What will they think of next?”.
