Misplace Anything?

I just completed assembling an Atlas roundhouse and during the work I needed to replace an Atlas blade - I knew I had a package of blades and had put them in a place I thought would be easy to find. You guessed it - I did not find the blades until the project was nearly finished. (Hard to work with a dull blade).
Question - does anyone else ever put things in a safe place and then cannot remember the place???

Never!

Says to self:Let’s see where did I put those decals?

It gets worse as you get older.

I spend much more time looking for stuff than actually building models… I have found that the best way to find parts, tools, and supplies is to get in the car, drive down to the LHS, and buy more. As soon as you get home, you will find that, whatever it was, sitting on your workbench right in front of you. It is portion of “Fetridge’s Law of Probability”. Nothing happens until it is no longer favorable to happen.

I can lose anything but my wife, she keeps finding her way home. [:D]

I don’t always put everything back in the same place, but I do have a small, finite number of places for pretty much everything. So, if I can’t find my utility knife on my workbench, or in the drawer, then it’s either on the still-in-the-pink portion of my layout, or in the tool box behind the layout.

But, then there’s the women. If one of them takes my knife, all bets are off. It might not re-appear for weeks, and neither of them has any idea where it is. If I ask “Have you seen my utility knife?” they will deny all knowledge. Of course, maybe if I said “Have you seen my shiny silver knife?” maybe I would get a better response.

Yes, but that happens more as you move into geezerhood.

What does?

I have lost a few things lately - but of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most!![:-,]

Words most frequently heard in the layout room:

If I was a (fillintheblank,) where would I hide???

Chuck (modeling Central Japan in September, 1964 - as soon as I find…)

I have a large drawer portable toolkit nearby the workplace, tools are sorted out by type and use kinda, screwdriver stuff one drawer, drill stuff another, electrical another…but I do tend to lay tools down to the side on the work area for quick access, but I carry a tool somewhere, comeback sometime…uhmm, where…?

I have/had parts/stuff in boxes, and I finally went ARRRGH!! Bought some clear plastic organizing trays. Took the time and sorted everything (at the time) out. I can see what I am looking for quickly and parts dont spill everywhere.

[(-D] Your just not trying hard enough!

I have a bad habit of walking into another room with some tool/part in my hand and setting down. Things like tape measures, blades, Xactos etc…I buy multiples of so I can usually find at least one!

They’re coming to take me away, aha…clunk clunk clunk

I even have trouble findings things I put down on the working bench two seconds ago.

That’s one reason I keep four pairs of reading glasses at home. Usually, three are lost at any given moment.

Maybe if you had looked for an Xacto blade rather than a non existent Atlas blade you might have had better luck![:)]

Modelmaker 51 - you are right, thanks for the correction - they were blades for an Xacto knife but they were still hard to find.

I’ll do you one better!

I lost all three of my Xacto knives for about a month. (The reason I have 3 Xacto knives is because whenever I couldn’t find one, I’d buy another! As soon as I did I’d find the one I was looking for.) Well, I put my foot down and refused to buy a fourth knife. I made due with a cheap, plastic handle, hobby knife.

Then, the other day, as I was cleaning up my hobby room, I looked into a large size drink cup sitting on top of my filing cabinet. (I like to keep these plastic cups to store things in.) I wondered to myself, what did I put in that cup?

Sure enough, there were all three of my Xacto knives sitting there just waiting to be found.

I put them there so they wouldn’t get lost!

All the time. I’ll go crazy trying to find it, then when I find it, say, “So that’s where I put it.”

You did not loose or misplace anything. You put it in a V.I.P.

a Very Important Place.

The V.I.P., is of course, a) the last place you look and b) never again found until you don’t need the item placed in the V.I.P.

Yep! The worst thing you do is say-“I’m gonna put this where I’ll NEVER forget it!”
That’s almost a guarantee you’ll never see it again![(-D]
