Quite a few of this forums regulars have been noticeably absent lately. I took a look at that new fangled on line train magazine thingy(that we’re not allowed to discuss here…) and there they are!![:D] I’m sure you’ll recognize most of the article authors…[:-^]
I’m trying to remember the guy who always posted the really great pictures of his super detailed layout.
I haven’t seen him on here or any of his pictures in awhile.
Does it have to be one or the other or can it be one complimenting the other - if you see what I mean.
I took a peak and saw a handle or three I recognised, including my own - but it’s just more of the same, but in a different place.
I registered on that e-mag site about six weeks ago and see that it’s publication frequency is, for the time being, just quarterly - that’s not enough for me - I need a more regular fix than that and I like paper as well. I guess that the e-mag being free is a big draw card. I’m sure e-publishing will impact on us as we seek to learn more about our hobby, but for the rest of the time I am here on the planet and I still have the faculties available to turn a page and comprehend what I’m reading I think I will stay with paper.
I don’t quite think in terms of either/or like some are implying. This is like the argument that implied that reading off of a computer screen leads to illiteracy or worse. I get tired of the position where I look at the person and ask " are the words being typed onto your screen radically different in kind from the printed page?"—and the answer usually comes back as no—but then we go and approach the topic as if “BY gum, There is a HUGE difference—”…uh-uh-ain’t gonna happen here-----

I don’t think that there is a written rule on this, Midnight. But recently some guys here were discussing a set of “How To” DVD’s and the benifits associated with purchasing this set of DVD’s. The guy who produced these DVD’s also produces the model railroad e-zine. Apparently tho hosts of this particular forum we are on now chose to yank the post and it disapeared. I think that this and similar actions are what loathar is refereing to.
I guess I’m just a little slow, must be my age! LOL!
I kept trying to figure out what you guys were talking about until the mention of DVDs and the guy with the beard.
So I googled his name, and NOW I see what all the chatter is about!!
Rather its all a bit ironic…Linn Westcott edited a mag, Model Trains, well that was a Kalbach publication, but the MR index here is very fair that includes MR, RMC, Traction and Models and more, just a great search since I have both mags back issues to the 40’s (dads collection)
We just seen Rail Model Journal say bye bye then a new MR mag pops up and now this. I go holy whatta?
Best I can say is I hope the new scene promotes the hobby as much as MR and RMC and all the other mags out there. I recall an article in MR that talks about the future of the mag business and that future has become today. Nothing wrong with whats happenned, the more the merrier…
