Such an unfortunate way to end a career. Too bad there wasn’t some sort of slide fence in the area.
RIP Mr. Gagnon.
Hopefully they will find him or better yet if they find him near there
The terrain is very unforgiving in the first several miles. Agree a slide fence here. When visiting the operation after college, the management said that many of the outcroppings farther north had been scaled back to minimize frost heaving. Unfortunately the rock faces in the area just north of Sept Iles are composed of very hard rock. Given the freeze thaw cycles - We can hope for the slide fences to trip the signals warning (or stopping) oncoming trains so that they are not rounding a curve at speed only to find the main totally blocked.
Hoping this tragic loss will not be in vain. RIP .
Totally agree !!! You have to wonder why, with the threat of rock slides on their main lines WHY a slide fence was not looked at a long time ago. I think these career Engineers have enough on their plate without having to worry whether or not they will make it home or not at the end of the day to their wives and families. God bless them all
