Orange Grove is where the L&N and later CSX served the Moss Point MS I.P. Paper Mill. The spur came off the Orange Grove siding crossed Hwy 90 the went down Mill Ave for about a mile or so the into the mill. The MSE RR came into the mill from the west so that both railroads served it. When the paper mill shut down in the late 90s the ex L&N spur was taken out of service and the crossings paved over or torn up as was the switch off the main line. The MSE spur though mostly still in place has grown over and washed out in a lot of places. The line that this will replace has lots of crossings and in some places goes right thru front yards between the houses and roads. This should help out their operations and safety.
I’m glad to hear the “peanut express” is doing so well. I got to ride in the cab on the whole route back in the early 90’s. Going across the water next to the hwy. 613 bridge was spooky to say the least. The new route should be a better and safer way to go. Got to love the small independent rail roads.
Gee. I thought folks in the red state South didn’t like all the “wasteful” money the “gov’mint” spends. This is another example of these states which consume more federal tax dollars than they contribute, yet complain about how the money is spent. Just sayin’.
To Chris Thompson, thanks for the additional info.
Dan, was that necessary? Or are you just a lost troll from NBDNC or CBS?
