Mississippi train station to be refurbished

20 or so years ago Greenville introduced gambling and the CAGY depot evolved into a pawn shop! This is good news.

Nice to see the Genesee & Wyoming making donations of historic and not necessarily historic passenger stations to communities to preserve and also “station bank” facilities. Even here in auto centric America it is possible that passenger trains could be back. G&W has done a great job by working with Ridgway, PA officials to preserve that communities Pennsylvania Railroad Station.

The renovation is a blessing for all of North Mississippi. As a youngster, I lived in nearby Indianola and remember riding the CAGY trains from there to the station in Greenville. I look forward to visiting the renovated station once again.
Now the interested parties need to find more stations to renovate.

This is the former Yazoo & Mississippi Valley depot, not the CAGY depot. G&W decided to donate the building due to the costs of bringing it up to code to make repairs. The former CAGY depot in town also still exists and was a restuarant the last time I went by.
