Anyone here know much about the M&NA? I just read an article on the line and find it a fascinating stretch of railroad. One of the most scenic lines east of the Rockies.
Rail America owns it, but other than that, I have little knowledge. Is there much on line business? Coal train still running on it?
M&NA was built as the White River Division of the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern, later the MoPac. You’re right about the scenery, it runs through the heart of the Ozarks. Part of it is now the Branson Scenic Railway. I can’t tell you much else, but you can check with the MoPac Historical Society which I think is in Sedalia.
I have a copy of a book called The North Arkansas Line by James R. Fair, published by Howell North. This is an entirely different railroad called the Missouri and North Arkansas which folded in the '40s. Also a scenic line, but I only tell you this because if you find a copy of this book you have the wrong railroad.
