Missouri river bridges

For the background of my planned home N-scale layout set in south eastern Nebraska (Nemaha) I need information about river traffic on the Missouri river and the clearance under road and rail bridges.

I understand that there is a double deck railroad lift bridge in Kansas city. Where can I find pictures and more information?

Any information is welcome.

Greetings,

Marc Immeker

Easy answer to the clearance question is, how high is the river? Non-lift bridges run about 40-50 ft. Lift bridges run about 20-40 ft. The bridges at Omaha and St. Joseph would probably be more typical than the one at KC. http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=15&X=1704&Y=22009&W=1&qs=|saint+joseph|mo| http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=15&X=1277&Y=22852&W=1&qs=|omaha|ne| http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=15&X=1289&Y=22867&W=1&qs=|omaha|ne| http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=10&Z=14&X=3711&Y=23019&W=1&qs=|blair|ne| Dave H.

I believe that the double deck lift bridge in KC that you’re asking about is the ASB(Admiral,Swift & Burlington) Bridge that spans the Missouri River from North Kansas City to Kansas City, MO. The roadway (Mo. Hwy#9) was on top and the railroad portion was below. The road and it’s approaches were removed when the Heart of America bridge was opened just east of the ASB bridge. The bridge is still in use as a railroad bridge and is occasionally raised for river traffic. As for pictures, I can’t really say. You can get a good overhead satellite picture from the Google maps website.
