A railroad station isn’t a memorial. The name “Union Station” stayed for a hundred years and doesn’t need to be changed. It was built for the purpose of business, and its name needs to honor that. If they want a memorial, they need to build one, or sculpt a statue.

I apologize for the triple comment. I don’t know how or why that happened. I only hit submit once.

I’m from Missouri and my thought is “Seriously?! Can’t you leave we’ll enough alone?!”
The same could be said about the airport in the middle of DC.
How about the Missouri end?
I guess the name “Union” has become as offensive to the current DC as “Democrat.” (I am registered as such).
This magnificent building has carried this name for nearly 110 years now. It doesn’t need to be changed now to honor a long departed politician.
self serving politicans should be working on helping the RR’s and Amtrak. Not wasting time on ideas like this.
Can’t really tie down a building that dates from the time of T. Roosevelt with a single president.
It is a commentary on the dysfunctional state of our democratic system of government, and the resultant cynicism of the voters, that one of the rare examples of “bi-partisan” legislation is this meaningless gesture. Truman would have found it absurd. As indeed it is.
I like the idea but it needs to also respect the traditional name. If that can’t be done, then find another appropriate building or location to name after HST or else construct some other memorial. He is at least as deserving as the former president that they renamed National Airport after.
Sounds like a great idea to me.
Harry S. Truman Washington DC Union Station
Harry S. Truman Washington Union Station
Harry S. “the buck stops here” Truman Union Station. Nope couldn’t make it sound good, just like Atlanta’s airport, DC’s airport and a bunch of other places with multiple names. America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, anything after that can’t be that topped! United States of America. Yet I don’t know of a single anything named after him besides the whole freakin continent. Politicians should just stick to wasting our money and lining their pockets and not get anything done instead of naming stuff. Just sayin!
A fitting tribute. Remember President Truman took Winston Churchill from Union Station to Westminster College where the Iron Curtain Speech was delivered. Your’re right he left quietly by train from Union Station at the end if his Presidency. No Imperial Air Force One grandstanding.
Note to editor: no period required after his middle initial.
Considering that train travel just about disappeared in the 1960s, it is good that there is still a major station to name! Really amazing turnaround for rail.
At this moment, I am very fond of Austin F Larson.
Nothing could be more appropriate than naming Washington Union Station for one of our greatest Presidents.
