Is there anyone knowledgable out there about mixed freights on the Southern Pacific, particularly in the 1940s and 50s in California, Oregon, or Nevada? I’d like to know their routes, periods of existence, and type and placement of the passenger equipment. Thanks for your help.
I would recommend joining the Espee Yahoo Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Espee/ for answers.
I checked OG’s from 1946 and 1955 and didnt show any mixed in Ca, Nv, or Or at that time.
A mixed train ran from Lake Charles, La to DeRidder, La (trains 931 adn 932) in 1946. Also trains 405/406 between Franklin and Cypremort in La.
Mixed trains 216/217 and 218/219 between Gonzales and Harwood, Tx. a distance of 12 miles. Trains 227/228 between Spofford and Eagle Pass, Tx ( 36 miles).
In New Mexico and Arizona:
952/953 between Lordstown and Clifton 70 miles
975/976 between Dawson and Tucumcari 132 miles
942 and 943 between Lewis Springs and Fort Huachuca
Thats about all I could find.
