Mixing Peco & Atlas code 55 track

A friend and I are starting a new N scale layout. He’s impressed with the apparent sturdiness of Peco turn outs, but the Peco has a different track profile than the Atlas. Can they be mixed, and if so, any special technique?

Thanks all,
Sticks

I’m pretty sure that Peco code 55 is actually code 80 rail in disguise. May be problematic.

Peco “code 55” is actually a code 80 with two bases, sunk in the ties to the second base. (and with the ties inside recessed!) Peco 55 and 80 match easily, but neither fits with true code 55. You can join then by making a compromise rail joiner (squash one end) and soldering the code 55 to the top of it.
Peco code 55 and code 80 turnouts are different geometries and don’t replace each other, but give you extra flexibility if you don’t mind the appearance.
