How many MK/MP1500’s does the PTRA have?
Hi derailed 1999, we have the first 24 built, numbered for the year delivered, and then the order they arrived on property, the 9601 thru 9624. We also have the MPEX 1501, a demo lease unit form Motive power Inc, also a MK1500.
Along with them, we have on lease a MK2000, a six axle switcher, 2000 hp.
Boise Locomotive built them all, but half way through they changed their name to Motive Power Inc, now they are a subsidiary of EMD, who has them building more for CEFX, but calling them GP15s and GP20s.
The original order was for 35 MK1500Ds, and the Houston Belt and Terminal got units 9625 thru 9635. When HB&T was dissolved, the units went to the BNSF.

Any chance of seeing a picture of MK2000?

Ed, have you ever worked with a SD-40. As far as yard work and switching, which do you prefer? I have heard and read great things about both engines. Are the MP1500’s better for yard work and how are they on the road.

Hi Tim, We use a lot of the SD40s from our member lines on grain trains and coke trains. They are kinda like the old chevy pick up you have stashed out back, you never want to get rid of them, they just wont quit. But for switching, give me my MK1500Ds, a Mu will do whatever you need it to in the yard. Ed
