MKT RDC car

Can anyone give me info on RDC cars on the Katy RR ? Thanks !

Looks like they only had one, #20, which went to C&O in 1962. The Katy fan club has an article including RDC information here:

I just posted over on “Classic Train” forum on this.
According to my info (C & O Power) C & O only had 6 RDCs.
3 from C &NW,3 from M&StL. Doesn’t mean I’m right either.[:)]
Try the C & O Historical Society.[:)]

Walter, Walter, Walter…

I looked at the C&O Diesel Review (the author’s well known to me), and it says that the six C&O RDCs came from CNW (3), MSTL (2), and MKT (1).

C&O got those RDCs from CNW in trade for three good coaches, and from the other two railroads in trade for some nearly-new hopper cars.

Thank You Carl, that’s one book I Don’t have.
C & O Power only lists the two other roads[:(]

And I’m positive you know the other authors;excuse me,but is your name not
on a byline with T.W.D. in a chapter in “Chessie’s Road”[?]
BTW did I not say I may or not be right[?][:D]

So, did the Katy ever use their RDC? In what service?

Ran Denison-Wichita Falls (conex with 1&2) until svc discontinued in 1958-59. Traded to C&O for 3 hopper cars. I believe it eventually wound up in Canada.

I never knew that MKT had these, also I didn’t know what kind of paint they wore.

The MKT RDC eventually ended up with CN. It was an RDC3, 6350-something, went to VIA Rail who rebuilt it to an RDC2.

To make sure clarified–they had only one, #20. Plain SS. Lettering was red. Color pix are in Katy in Color and I think in Katy Power.
