I still don’t understand how a company faced with millions in liability claims can just walk away by filing bankruptcy. But I guess we’re talking about being financially bankrupt, which is not the same as being morally bankrupt.
The “captains of industry” just walk away.
Those who have suffered are left to pay.
Hey, Benham Mr. McNamara’s comments are dead-on accurate. What Burkhardt did (or didn’t) do is criminal; the bum is lucky he isn’t in jail. It’s because of his slack attitude and “make sure I get the maximum profit” mantra that caused that whole mess. He’s a nice guy? Even Hitler liked dogs and had a couple of beautiful Belgian Sheppards. Your priorities are not very realistic.
Once again the “Hang Burkhardt” gangs are roaming the streets. Too bad they are incapable of understanding how the government already determined the crude oil was improperly labeled by the shipper. Because of this, the railroad thought the oil was less explosive than it turned out to be. But then, never let logic get in the way of a good hanging if you hate private sector capitalism. Just make sure to blame yourselves when there is no food in the stores or fuel at the station.
I hope Irving bids it up. It would be neat to see the Montreal (Saint-Jean)-St. John mainline entirely owned by one company again rather than continue to be split in two.
Acutally Mr. Warner, Saint-Jean (sur Richelieu), and the eastern end of MM&A is just south of Montreal. I believe you’re confusing Lac St. Jean, north of Quebec City and off MM&A property. EndQuebec geography lesson.
If only there was some way the money-hungry cur Burkhardt could be forced to put the entire bag of booty he gets for his failed railroad into an account that would be distributed to the families that were murdered by his greed…but that’s not how railroad capitalism works, now is it ?
I trust the pending lawsuits will put him and his investors in the poorhouse.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Burkhardt, and P McNamara’s characterization is cruelly inaccurate. Hope he hires a lawyer. The remark is actionable. Please delete P MC’s remarks.
Gary in California! I stand by my remarks. Delete his remark NOW! Failure to do so will result in immediate cancellation of my subscriptions to all Kalmbach publications! I may need to take action against this insulting jerk. I am not going to accept abuse like this.
no response when Pg.2 is attempted in the comments section.
Yes Mr. Griffin, you are correct, however I thought Mr. Dodds had confused St John’s with Saint John, home of the Irvings.
Mr. Dodds, The Irvings conduct business out of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. Saint Jean is a region of Ville de Quebec (Quebec City).
Yes it would be nice to see the Irvings gain rail access to the Montreal market.
Maine Northern Railroad will bid on it ( a sub of Irving) most likely, BUT
what of BAR#502 sitting minus traction motors at Derby shops?
One of the original F3’s bought in the 1940’s by the BAR.
How about a TRAINS detective on that mission?
Ed Burkhart is a decent man. He is someone who likes railroads. Which is a lot more then I can say for some others who would blame capitalism, communism, or any other humongous
Word
This is awesome news. FIG is the group that, it’s becoming very apparent, bought the Florida East Coast solely so they could re-introduce passenger service as part of an attempt to make development of the corridor profitable. They’re a great company with extraordinary vision and I hope they’re in with a chance, even if the bid right now is “stalking horse”.
The MMA may not be the world’s most valuable line, but it’s clearly underdeveloped, and does join some major population cities. FIG would be a great company to work on turning something that has caused so much pain into something that rebuilds the region.
