mmi K27's

Just got my k27 and it’s a real nice model but I’ve got this problem with the sound.
Has anyone fitted a decoder and does this solve the problem?
The wiring harnes between loco and tender is also tight and causes it to derail, I’ve got a fix in mind but has anyone already tried and found a solution?

At least it looks great on the shelf !!![?]

I received my K27 about two weeks ago and haven’t tried it. I have heard lots of horror stories regarding the sound system … especially in DC. The PSC web-site has a “fix” for the sound problem … don’t know if it works but it’s not too difficult (just cut a single jumper wire). I gather that the best DC sound comes from filtered DC (the MRC Tech 4 doesn’t seem to have a problem). As for DCC, NCE offers a plug-n-play decoder (D18SR-PSC) which should make it sound fine in DCC. They are just shipping the decoders this week, so I will stil have to wait to let you know what they sound like. Thanks for the warning on the tender harness. I have some pretty tight curves and am anxious to see if I have just purchased $400 worth of mantle decoration.

Thanks will keep an eye out. I did the jumper wire mod and it made no difference I was thinking that if the decoder makes the unit sound good then I’ll take the plunge and convert to DCC but I may wait for the Tsunami or QSI dual mode decoders if they eventually appear!

epeorus-You got it two weeks and you haven’t tried it yet? Is this some sort of self inflicted torture or do you have super human self control?

Loathar,

Self-inflicted … too much work in the summer, plus battling a few hurricanes (Emily is on her way!) has made the Chili Line move slow this summer. Got the NCE decoder last night and installed it immediately … it works and sounds great!

Now if, I can only find some locals to start a round robin …

right time to go DCC then![:D]
