MN - New Haven overhead renewal.

How is the change out of the NH RR overhead wires to constant tension Catenary from the NY - Conn state line to New Haven progressing? How many route miles, How many track miles, the cost breakdown and completion date if not finished would be appreciated. Are they wuing the old NH supoort pole structure? Also will the system be 12,500V - 60 Hz?

Don’t have exact figures but about 75% is done, yes the power will stay at 12.500 volt 60 hz as there is not sufficient clearance for 25Kv.

Catenary towers at interlockings are being changed but most of old New Haven stuff is still in pretty good shape.

Dutchrailnut - how far south of New Rochelle on the Hell Gate route does the electrification change to AMTRAK’S and what is its values?

Is there a term (or a retronym = coined term) for NON-constant catenary tension? Is this what the line still has, and is it out of date, or impractical?

The Frequency change (12.5 Kv 60 hz to 11.5 Kv 25 Hz) is at Gate catenary 66 or MP5.1 from NYP, CP216 is at MP 18.9.

The new stuff is constant tension, the old stuff is variable tension, it could only be adjusted manually, in very cold weather it gets to tight, in hot weather it gets to much slack and rips down.
