Mod Modge vs. Matte Medium

Is there any difference in these two products? I see recommendations for both for gluing scenery materials and track ballast. At Michael’s, Matte Medium appears to be the lesser expensive of the two.

I think Mod Podge is just a brand name. The other stuff I see on their site is made by Liquitex.
That stuff seems to made for pottery. Don’t know what the difference is.

I think [%-)] Mod Podge is designed to be poured on in a rather thick coat. (can also be thin too of course) while Medium is brushed on in thin coats. Also the ModPodge that I’ve used dried very clear and shiny. Matte medium, of course is supposed, to be dull.

Acrylic GLOSS medium dries shiney; Liquitex makes both matt and gloss.

I use the gloss medium for water. It also can be added over resin to make waves and ripples.

Mod Podge makes a dull (matte) and a gloss formula. I’ve seen people use the gloss for sealing jig saw puzzles.

Mod Podge turned yellowish on my layout after a period of time. The Acrylic mediums did not.

Good to know. I bought some to seal trees with… perhaps I should reconsider.

How long did it take for the yellow color to appear?

Thanks,

Chris

About 2-3 years as I recall. If I had used it over earthtone colors, the yellowing might not have been noticeable or at least not objectionable. However, I used it over pure white snow - not good. All Liquidtex products have worked well for me.

Thanks… I may go ahead and use it for sealing the trees since I realized it will be painted over anyway and is soooo much cheaper. I will avoid using it on anything I am not going to subsequently paint.
