model apreciation

today was the first time i have seen any of my trains roll thru whats eventually going to represent a scene on the prototype. somehow, i felt like they had more purpous, (spelling) and i apreciated them more seeing them doing something that would complete a task. does anyone else ever feel this way?

Oh yes. Part of modeling for some of us is an alternative universe, a almost real world, that is in some ways more real. The scenery, the equipment, the purpose, the success is all part of our world that sometimes works better than the “other” world. Some days its the world that does work and accomplish some purpose. Enjoy and share.

Yeah…I put a pair of New Haven PA’s and a string of various HW cars on my plywood wasteland on a track, put my head on the wood, and closed one eye, turned the transformer up to get the headlight on and tried to imagine myself back in 1951 or so just to try and put myself back then. Trying to imagine what it was like with those awesome units, beautiful paint schemes; all the sights and sounds.

It seemed to me at least to give them purpose.
