model assembly questions 1st time

I have bought my first un-assebled rail car. It is a passenger car. The issue that I am having in assembly is how do I get the windows glued in? The glue dries before I can get the window in place, it runs the length of the car. Do I glue the whole window, or just the frame on the car?

Pretty simple question, butI am new to this. Also any other tips that you have for this type of assembly for a starter.

Thanks

Doug

Is this an Athearn car? If so, you might not need glue–the windows are designed to snap into the carbody. However, I always glue mine afterwards. A drop along the top window ‘rail’ is all you need–capillary action will draw it into the joint.

I’d reccommend using a product called RC-56.Its sold in shops dealing radio control models and is used for gluing canopies to wood bodies. However I find its good for gluing clear plastic to almost anything including plastic. It dries clear, has a 5 minute working time. Is water soluble,and won’t fog the clear plastic like AC does. Don’t apply it direct form the bottle but put a couple drops on a peice of scrap plastic and use an applicator such as a toothpick… I use yogurt lids ,or coffee can lids or cottage cheese lid for the scrap plastic. Another tip. don’t throw nothin out without considering a possible use in your hobby.

Hi Doug;

As mentioned above, assembly, then apply adhesive.

In addition to the RC56 mentioned above, Testors has product for attaching clear windows - I got my last bottle of it at Wal-Mart
