Hi all! I opened my easter art exhibition yesterday at the former Ravlunda destillery (now gallery, restaurant and hotel): Some of my works: I made three rusted pillars with dioramas on them. I named them “Pillars of society 1-3”. I wanted to raise the artistic reputation of model building. It was/is a total success! I sold all three within two hours of opening the exhibition. I have had so much questions about them afterwards, so I guess I could have sold a lot more of them! Here are some of my other art, the paintings:
Smoke, fire and steel: Obelisk: Steam… Sunset:
It is a very nice feeling to get artistic recognition on the models as well as the rail related art. [:D]en
Congratulations, Graffen. I have always admired your skills and the results. It must be a good feeling to have others compliment you and to enjoy what you have produced.
I have always understood, despite the objections of at least one former member from years back, that our hobby encourages artistic expression, and yours are fine examples.
Congrats on your show and its sale successes![tup][Y]
This is something to contemplate. We usually think of getting kids involved so they “grow into” the hobby. This would open things up to a more adult crowd with a different set of challenges in retaining their interest. People that buy art often make art and the simple fact of displaying art gets others interested in different subject matters, media, sensibilities, and the general forms in which all these are expressed. End result? New modelers. They may have very different interests, too, which can be thoughtprovoking for those who been in the field for awhile.
Very nice work, on the dioramas and the paintings. Interesting how “Obelisk”, and other works that don’t have an actual train in them seem to be sometimes more captivating. Like it arouses anticipation for what’s not there. Presentation is definately a factor, and you’ve got that down! Dan
Thanks for sharing this with us. I’ve always been on the “Yes, it’s art” side of the debate over whether or not our hobby is art, and your success kind of proves the point.
