Yes…
Many guys change scales as they get older for precisely that reason.
There is an inverse problem too though - the larger the scale the more visible the interior is, so you feel more need to detail it. I’ve seen O scale yard offices which even had recognisable newspapers on the desk and kettles by the stove! It can get very addictive after a while…
Another inverse, being larger, some people put more detail parts on a larger building because it is larger, and crowd the scene with unneccessary parts. Smaller buildings do not require as much detail to look “detailed.”
An O scale building has four times the volume of an HO scale building. Figure it out from there.

the scale doesnt affect this problem as you might assume…True an o scale 2x4 is larger than an ho 2x4…but now you will be inclined to include 1x2’ s for detail…if you get my drift…we have a tendency to model and work with the smallest pieces we can manage, that is, manipulate and see. The advantage of O is that we can represent finer detail because our seeing limit allows it…Make sense? In N scale the smallest piece we can use represents a far larger component. Now, in general…many modelrs do switch to larger scales as they get older…
