Does anyone know of an online reference library for model locos? An Athearn model (circa 2001) I purchased is listed on Athearn’s website with no specs. Are there other sources out there to find out what this or any loco was all about? I’m not looking for prototype info. Thanks.
You probably need to be more specific in what info you are looking for about the model and why it is important. If you post some specific questions, my guess is someone will have the answer.
Not sure if they’ll have all the specs you’re wanting, but try this site:
They have reference material (instruction sheets, assembly diagrams, some other stuff. Look in the pull-down menus for Athearn items (maybe they’ll have a 2001 catalog), and see what you can find.
I’ve looked there when I was looking for an assembly instruction sheet (but usually for a bit older than 2001).
Hope that helps,

What kind of “specs” are you looking for? Here is site I found:

Don’t know if you can click on this, you might have to copy and paste, but, besides the length of the frame, and the number of axles, take the body shell off a loco, and they all about the same. Motor, drive shafts, worm gear and trucks.
You might want to explain to forum members as to what you are specifically looking for, and what you mean by “what this loco or any loco was all about”

If you’re looking for the mechanical specs and such, it has:
5-pole skewed armature motor
Dual brass flywheels
Diecast metal frame
All wheel drive and electrical pickup
12:1 gear ratio
Plastic body
These have been the specs of all Athearn blue-box diesels for some decades now.[:D]
