Why doesn’t some company make HO and HOn3 models of excursion cars like this one? They are used in modern day tourist railroads in California and Colorado (and other places?). They were/are used when regular (long) passenger cars are not available or not practical, especially on logging railroads.
Also, has anyone ever seriously modeled a tourist railroad, where you might combine old steam locomotives in a modern setting?
They do, or at least did. Somewhere in my railroad closet I’ve got a couple HOn3 unbuilt-kits representing prototypes similar to that shown in the photo. Regardless, it would be relatively simple to modify a flat car for such duty. All you’ll need are benches and strip wood (plus paint and so on.)
Do you have any idea who the manufacturer of the kit was? You can find almost any old kit on e-bay if you know what to search for. Often the seller doesn’t even know how to describe what he is selling, but it you know a manufacturer and model you have a chance.
Why not just get a suitable flatcar and add the body using wood or styrene strips? I built the car shown below from a Rivarossi coach, following photos of the CNR prototype.
As I recall, the kits were made by “Master Creations”, the same people who brought us the McCabe Logging Co. engine service facility and the McCabe Logging Co. engine house.
