Model Power coal tower - help needed

According to Walthers, the Model Power coal tower, 490-410, is 6" square but as I look at photos of the model on people’s layouts, it just doesn’t look that big.

Does anyone out there have one of these coal towers that they can examine and measure? Is there a base that can/should be trimmed away? Or is the 6" measurement taken directly from the legs of the tower?

The ‘base’ appears to be about 6" square. Remember that there is a coal dump behind the coal tower for hoppers to dump their coal load into. The actual ‘structure’ looks about 4" square…

That’s exactly what I wanted to know, thanks very much. I couldn’t see the coal dump in the pictures, but that makes sense.
