model power emd sw1 loko

i have a CN switcher made by model power. model power emd sw1 loko. My grandfather gave it to me awhile back. Its still in its origanl box, never used. just tested it the other day n it worked fine. Just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this particular HO scale engine. Are they very sought after. Is it worth hanging on to. Please Help

thanks

matt

It’s worth hanging onto because your grandfather gave it to you, if you think it’s worth a lot of money you had better ask that question again in a hundred years, by then it might be up to $25 or so.

Its only value is sentimental – actual cash value of a Model Power locomotive that old is probably less than $10 if you could even find anyone who would want it.

Matt,The MP SW1 is very common and can be found daily on e-Bay…

I have a MP CR RS11 my late wife gave me the first Christmas we was married.

Worth about $ 5.00…Sentimential value priceless.

Matt,

I have many things (mr and others) that the sentimental value is much higher than book value.

If you plan to use it much, I would suggest that you service it, oil and grease, to keep it working well for many more years.

Good luck,

Richard

I have a RS-2 and it literally looks like trash. No one goes for Model Power, no offense. Since your grandfather gave it to you, I’d say keep it. Besides, if you have a true layout and not a little dinky el-cheapo Power-Loc track, then it’s worth your money to keep it.
