Model Power/Mantua Classics 2-6-6-2t Shaft Question

Hi. I am new to model railroading and new to this forum.

I bought a Model Power/Mantua Classics 2-6-6-2t from a seller on Ebay. The front drivers on the engine do not rotate and upon inspection, that appears to be because the front shaft (called a shaft short and identified as part number MO285R2 in the parts diagram) is missing. I wonder if anyone has had to replace this part and if so, was it an easy part to replace - just insert the new part or is there more to than that? Did you obtain the replacement part from Model Power or another source, like NWSL? And if you got the replacement part from NWSL, what is the correct part number?

Any help and guidance in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[#welcome] To The Forums,

You will have to look up the part # you have and look for it in the parts list,click on the link given;

Gidday, [#welcome] to the forum.

Have you contacted Model Power, I’ve had no dealings with them and no knowledge of their spare parts policy, but I would think its well worth a try. Good luck.

I want to thank everyone for their guidance and suggestions. Much appreciated.

Regarding contacting Model Power, what follows has been my experience so far.

On September 19, 2013, I sent emails to tech@modelpower.com. The email described the failure of the front drivers to rotate, posed another operational question, and asked for possible causes and fixes. No response as of yet.

On October 1, 2013, I sent an email to ContactUs@modelpower.com. The email described the failure of the front drivers to rotate, described the apparently missing part, restated the previously described other operational question, and asked for possible causes and costs to fix/repair. No response as of yet.

On September 26 or 27, 2013, I called Model Power and was told that no one in parts was available to speak to me until October 1, 2013.

On October 1, 2013, I called Model Power and asked to speak with someone in parts. I was told that no one was available and the person with whom I spoke did not know when someone would be available. Model Power took my name and telephone number. However, I have not received a return call.

On October 2, 2013, I again called Model Power. I again asked to speak with someone in parts. I was again told that no one was available and I again gave the person with whom I spoke my name and telephone number. I asked if I had called the right telephone number (answer - yes) and when I might expect a return te

DEW3896,

I do not know where you live so I can’t answer who you should deal with about ordering,I would not use the one that is on the top of the link I gave…Try one of these, for your area.

http://www.modelpower.com/aboutus.asp

In my experience with them,in a few conversations, with so-called heads, they freely admitted, that there is a problem with huge back logs of E-Mails and problem’s with no one knowing whose job is what…They are trying to straighten that out…It’s funny in a way,but not so funny, because they want to stay in business,One head I spoke to was rather irrate about the situation with Brent. Just have to see what happens I guess…

Cheers,[D]
