Model Power n-scale steam engines

While leafing through the Walthers n-scale catalogue I noticed Model Power makes several smaller steam engines, 4-4-0, 2-6-0, 4-6-2, even for the railroad I am interested in. I am thinking of buying them.

Does anyone have experience with them? What are their riding qualities? How good is the shell?

HAve any of you done any upgrading?

Any input is welcome.

greetings,

Marc Immeker

They’re real nice in that respect. The 4-4-0 has no traction tire and so pulling power is a bit light. Fortunately, the Pacific has a traction tire upgrade kit that is a drop-in for the 4-4-0.

They have good detail, but the 4-4-0 is a bit on the big side.

Would this count for upgrades? http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/N%20Scale%20Trains/Model%20Power%204-4-0%20Camelback/

I’ve got the 4-6-2 Pacific in Southern Pacific, and though it’s not a bad looking little engine, it can only pull about eight or nine cars at the most - and that’s on a flat surface… I’ve got to admit though that if another company (possibly Spectrum) ever comes out with a better one, I’m buying it and selling the Model Power!.
