Model railroad in a comic strip

I kind of took offensebecause of the inaccuricy o fthe data, but I think everyone will gwet a laugh out of this

Well, remember, it’s from the perspective of a non-modeller. Although Lynn Johnston’s husband is indeed a Model Railroader (And in fact manufactures 1" Scale products.)

Looking past “Arc scale” and stuff like that, it’s all good publicity, and a good poke at those of us who talk like that at meets! [:O]

hehe i saw it in tha paper this moring and i got a good laugh outa it. weather or not the data is right nobody but the people into trains will know =P

I’m thinking that she wrote it the way she on purpose…just to get the goat of people like us. Maybe Rod even put her up to it.

Worked, too [:)]

last year there was also a comic strip from “Pearls before Swine” that had a series of comics about model railroad conductors/ engineers… ie being VERY tiny scaled down people that ran model railroad locomotives [:D] - it was great.
cheers

My wife started chuckling while reading the paper this afternoon. then asked me what a “wye” was? She then smiled and I knew where this was going. The point was made!

Then again I found her reading one of my MR magazines later. I’m now waiting to get struck by lightning.

Too scary!

Regards

That was too cool!

This was at least the third strip dealing with trains. One was where a loco was stolen from the store featured in the storey line and was when vandals destroyed part of
the outdoor pike.

Dash-9 with an EMD prime mover… hrrrmm… either he just made a mistake or he’s yanking our chains… Cool comic, though![8D]

Gotta love those EMD Dash 9’s

Do you know of an archive online of that? I’d like to see it.

My personal favourite For Better or For Worse comic was one where the husband first gets started in model railroading. He walks into a hobby shop and the guy there says, “May I help you?” He says, “Yes. I’m looking for a hobby and am interested in electric trains.” The man then replies, “My dear fellow, these are not a hobby. They are a way of life.”

There were also a couple of the Betty comic strips where the husband gets into model railroading. The one I remember shows him running his layout in the first box. In the second box, the son comes and watches. In the third box, the son says, “You know dad, your generation is probably the last one to appreciate trains.” I certainly did not enjoy the humour in that one!

That’s terrible. That CERTAINLY is not the case here!!!

The punch line of the strip in question indicates that they continue to discuss things they are relatively ignorant about. When they were boys it was women. Now it is trains. This would explain the “EMD prime mover” line as it would illustrate that ignorance.

Yep! The joke was on us… LOL

heh, like…if a man says something in the forest, is he still wrong…heheheheheheheheh

love the strip…

Touche’ dinwitty, touche’ …LOL…{from a guy who is always worng…}

Very nice. At least we keep the hobby alive in the mass media.
