Model Railroad Landmark Falls

My daughter Amy called this morning (Saturday 7/14) to tell me that she saw the back hoes doing their grim work at the old location of MB Klein in Baltimore. A developer purchased the site last year, and Klein’s relocated to the northern suburb of Cockeysville.

Sorry, I don’t have a picture, but here are some views from happier times.

There’s a lot of memories there for me. This was where my dad would take my brother and me on rainy Saturdays so we’d have something creative to work on. It’s where I bought my first N scale trains, and where I blew most of my first paycheck when I was in high school.

I’ll just have to add it the list with Johnny Unitas, Memorial Stadium, Hutzlers, and National Beer as parts of old Baltimore that have vanished into the mists of time.

Thats sad…Cox 47

I take it they went out of business? At least it’s not some historic train station being torn down.

That’s what’s kind of silly about the post … M.B. Klein is still very much in business. They just moved.

Things change. Deal.

At least the business survived and is prospering enough to move into a newer facility. When buildings of this type meet the wrecking ball it’s usually because the business failed.

Now, if they would just get rid of that Bromo Seltzer tower…

Very unlikely, since the Bromo Seltzer Tower is on the National Register of Historic Places.

That is one thing they wont do. That’s “Our” tower.

Progress is painful and losses along the way, but better to have lived, loved and lost than to ever lived at all.

They have been getting rid of huge amounts of old industry along the water “Werter…” lately for condos and such. Or was it Jersey speak? “Wadder?” I dont know.

I recall some of the other landmarks mentioned here as well.
