Model Railroad Planning 2010 (Doug Tagsold)

~~'~~Just got around to reading my copy (I’m way behind on my 'Required Reading!) and was disapointed to read that Doug Tagsold had dismantled his On3 D&RGW layout! - 'one of my favorites and the top inspiration for my current (in progress) On30 layout.

Anyone know why he took it down?

Regards,

J. P. Kelly

I, too, am terribly dismayed. I dont know why he would have taken it down. It was so promising. It was a change of pace. So much had already been invested in it, so at least another On30 layout would be good.

It seems he just got tired with it and wanted to change it to something else. What better reason does he need?

I operated Dougs On3 layout at the Narrow Gauge convention in Detroit. It was a blast! Water towers were animated and the scenery floor to ceiling in some areas. Hope his new one is as good.

I have to go back and re-read, I must have missed this in the issue.

Hello J.P.,

Doug Tagsold’s On3 railroad was in a basement room in the funeral home he operated. He wanted to sell the business and dismantled the railroad for that reason. The HO scale railroad in the latest issue of MRP was in the basement of Doug’s home, but since that house was part of the funeral home property, that railroad has been removed also. Doug has plans for a new HO railroad, and so far he’s thinking in terms of a totally different theme set somewhere other than Colorado. I’m sure he’ll explain what that will be when he’s ready.

So long,

Andy

Andy,

Thanks very much for the info.

I guess people were dying to see his layout …

Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

I took down my On3 layout about a year ago. The reason ? It was located in the basement of our family owned business, which is now in the process of being sold. During an NMRA regional convention in the fall of 2008, an individual offered to purchase the layout, with the intention of re assembling it just as origionally built. It was carreid out of our basement in 33 pieces, and hauled away in two 53 ft. moving van trailers. I have not heard yet if the layout has been put back together yet. I would sure like to see it up and running again.
