Fall 2009 meet.

Thanks for posting, I had not noticed that this was going on this weekend. I may well try and head over the river to visit.

Simon, if you go would you mind if I tag a long?

Tomkat, will they take a credit card or do I need to bring cash?

Ken

There is a few full time dealers that will take a credit card but the large amout of the dealers are part timers and just plain hobbiest that are selling their extra items ( In the past We have had Gary Hoover of Missouri, Kansas & Quincy fame & Eric Brooman of Utah Belt fame both local model railroaders take tables selling some of their engines & rolling stock). So cash talks big. With over 270 tables and only $3.00 to get in, free parking makes this twice a year swap meet one of the best in the mid west. The Boeing club has a test track station you can use to try out used engines, a module HO club layout on display. There is a snack bar or you can find a good selection of fast food on Manchester Rd. Good deals on used rolling stock ( I have bought many cars with KD’s in the $3 to $6 range.), found back issues of Model Railroader .25 to .50 ea. Stop by the club lay out, I’ll have my club vest on with a large Katy RR Patch on the rear. Hope to see you all there.

I went to that swap meet a year ago when I was in St. Louis visiting my daughter at WashU. It really was a buyer’s market. Lots of good used stuff (not toys) at good prices. So much so, that I considered another visit this year. But she’s out of town with some friends for Spring Break. [sigh]

You sure can, I sent you a PM

MORE PICS from past meet

What a great show this was. The boys, with money burning in their pockets, and I spent a good couple of hours going around the tables. There was a lot of stuff and deals to be had all over the place. $25 scored Christopher a pair of HO Burlington Northern SD40’s Bachmann Plus split frame locos. They are now sporting new decoders and LED lights and running very well indeed. They are really heavy and can pull anything that we can fit on the layout! Andrew spend $20 on a Bachmann Spectrum F40PH in Amtrak and $10 each for some Amtrak Walthers passenger cars. The loco, while older, looks to be unused and still had all its plastic bits in the sealed parts bag.

Now I have to say that for years I would not touch a Bachmann for anything. But, after getting a sweet running Shay and a Spectrum Doodle bug, I have to say that I think that these Plus and Spectrum locos are really good value. They seem to have a solid drive train, plenty of weight and fairly decent detail. So while I will malign the lowest end Bachmann and the cheap LifeLike and Tyco stuff, but impression of Bachmann has really been boosted.

The very best part of the day was when a total stranger stopped my 10 year old and asked him if he was a “young model train enthusiast?” Well Crispy is the walking definition of a young train enthusiast and answered accordingly. The gentleman then proceeded to hand Crispy a Rivarossi E8 all super detailed for the Rock Island and a brand new Walthers commuter passenger car in Rock Island livery. He did not want to sell them, but pass them onto a young lad that would cherish them and develop his love for the hobby. There really are some great folks in this hobby!
