Model railroad video: Building the HO scale Virginian Ry. part 10
I am amazed at the advancements in our hobby, wiering is now so easy. Thanks for such a great series. The video cut out just as Cody was getting ready to airbrush the track, but he pointed out an important point about cleaning BEFORE painting. I learned the hard way on that one!!!
Cant wait to see the next segment. Great job guys.
I have been looking for the 3M connectors. Some places that I read said they were avaliable from Home Depot but I have not found them there. Any help in finding them without having to buy a contractors box of 1000?
Thanks
Thank you for showing the easy way of wiring the layout. Can’t wait to get to that point. Keep the videos coming. Good work.
I have to characterize this as a “plate of spaghetti” layout plan, providing you comb the spaghetti first… Seriously, it sure makes use of nearly every square inch of space on that 4 x 8…
I’ve always wondered…
I’ve wired a few layouts in my lifetime. I’m starting my first purely DCC layout. Question is; is there a standard for model railroading wire colors???
I’ve always used red-outside and black-inside rail for power leads, and blue and white, and/or green and white for lighted accessories and buildings…
I haven’t started wiring yet, so I’m curious if theres a standard.
Oh, and I’m a big fan of 3M connectors too! ![]()
Karl, at least out here in CT, Home Depot has the Gardner Bender (GB) brand of connectors. They are usually in the isle with AV and TV accessories.
fine vidio as always . this is for karl you can find the 3m connectors at most automotive stores , you might have to ask for them at the counter . hope this helped and have fun .
Karl, parts express carries these connectors. They are an amazon vendor as well: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BFZ7U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&m=A385A0XNQBW8HY
I used them on my last layout and will be using them on my current layout. Great video guys.
For Karl from KY: Check out eBay, several listings there. WalMart sells em in small lots in their automotive section. Or Google “3M suitcase connectors” for a gazillion links to suppliers.
Wiring is my biggest concern, and you make it look so easy you have got me hooked.
Doing a good job guys keep it going, hanging out for the next installment.
For various reasons, I don’t plan on using DCC. However I intend to wire the layout just as you have. Can I still use the Hex Frog Juicer?
Great job ,so far. I am planning to build with n guage not with dcc. I just finished sheetn rocking my attic and will soon begin starting to build the table. looking forward to next months issue. Keep up the good work.
Nice little layout coming together. With just 5 switches wouldn’t it be easier of use to just put in manual switches rather than an electrical ez frog board necessitating going to the hand controler and going thru the commands to do a track switching. I have 19 switches on my 36 x 80 n scale layout and have found that an inline bank of hand electrical switches works better for me as it it quicker to do the functions. Just my own preference.
@ Karl, here you go: http://www.micromark.com/suitcase-connectors-idc-905-red-pkg-of-25,8939.html
Hi, the juicer is dcc only.
How is it that the tallest person ends up under the layout doing the wiring? Great series guys keep it up!
A signature of David Popp’s video work (am I giving credit to the right person?) is a tasty music track. Is he a possibly 5-string man when not building a layout?
It’s a nice little layout with a lot of possibilities. I like hearing David Popp explain the wireing, BUT, could you all drop the corny banjo music? Or, at least turn it down. I could barely hear David’s explanation over the music. Otherwise, all is coming along quite nicely,
