Hi All,
I received my renewal letter for trains and model railroader and for trains its $40.80 and model railroaders is $37.95 to renew!!! I cant and I wount pay this for their mag. I dont me to kick them in the butt,they are good mags. but I cant afford this. How many others are mad about this ?
Like I said in a different thread - a movie for two, dinner and drinks and nothing to show for it afterward - at least nothing you can keep. Trains magazine you can keep forever and re-read or pass it on. In this day and age, how can you buy so much enjoyment for less.

Jen, I agree entirely with your thoughts. I have kept almost all of my old Trains, Passenger Train Journal and many old Railfan magazines from way back to the mid 1970’s and love to spend winter weekend days re-reading old editions…interesting how things have changed since then. Jim, Aurora, IL
Trains and Classic Trains are both worth more than a cable TV subscription. I sure wish some TV channel could do reruns of the travel shows Stan Midgley used to show on George Pierrot’s World Adventure Series in Detroit many years ago. Stan was a mountain climber and always featured trains in his programs. His films on Colorado narrow gauge trains were great.
37 bucks I’ll pay anyday to keep my Model Railroader coming, where else can a serious modeller get such a great source for building tips, new models, etc. I’d rather spend on that than booze and cigarettes.

Kalmbach used to run an ad for past issues that said “every magazine is new until you’ve read it.” Maybe you should explore buying used magazines at swap meets if you cannot afford the new ones.
I have often seen one year old MRs and Trains being sold for a dollar each at swap meets
Older issues sometimes down to fifty cents.
When I first started buying MR it was fifty cents an issue brand new, and covers were black and white with almost never any color photos inside. Empty soda bottles brought I think a two cent deposit so a morning spent collecting discarded Coke bottles could often pay for the magazine!
Then again, pretty good HO sprung trucks were fifty cents a pair and some Athearn kits were about $1.50 list price. AHC used to advertise the Mantua metal steam locomotive kits for about $12. I’d say the magazine price has kept pace.
