Model railroader in PDF

What do you think about an option of ?Model Railroader offering their magazine in PDF format?

It’s Model Railroader’s call. Personally I want the magazine and would not opt for PDF.

Nothing beats real print on real paper,
you can take a magazine anywhere you like
As an extra PDF files would be a nice service,

I would have no interest in recieving MR this way…I want it in hardcopy form. Consider how quickly storage media changes. I have downloads from five years ago that my latest machine can no longer accept because I didn’t keep transfering them to the latest type of media. On the other hand, I have printed copies of MR from 1940 onward I can refer to forever without any problem.

As with most polls here, the correct option is not being asked. Would you like to see MR on CD?

Just as a PDF, absolutely not. As a pdf on CD for archival and storage with the printed magazine continuing? Absolutely.

I’d like the ability to order and receive “reprints” of articles via PDF format.

Yes, it would be nice to have the magazine available in PDF format, but keep the printed version, too. I would not want it converted to only a PDF version. A couple of computer magazines tried the PDF file only version several years ago and soon went out of business. Any publication distributed in PDF format faces the prospect of losing subscribers because not everyone has a computer, and it would not take long for the PDF copy to show up somewhere as a free download.

No way for me. I love my printed colorfull copy that I can take anywhere to read, in the car waiting for my wife to come back from some errand, in the bathroom (yes there too)in bed. Long live printed magazines!

What’s better than taking a hot bath and meanwhile reading your favorite magazine, ever tried that with your computer?

just take your laptop![:D]

I would love to be able to search for stuff electronically.

With the updated poll, I would like to have it in both versions. It would be great to have the ability to print out a list, photo, diagram, or just a single page of how to’s. I wi***heir back issues were that way now where you could go to the index and actually access the article.

If the quality would be the same as the pdf articles they are posting currently, I’d say -no. The quality is HORRENDOUS.

I’ve been scanning old articles from my magazines and putting them on cd in pdf format using Open Office (a free open source office suite). They look MUCH better than the current article on freight car weathering posted on this site. If it was legal I’d post one of the articles I have to show what I mean

I figure I don’t need shelves of magazines, so I’m consolidating the articles on CD by topic.

Also- I’d like to be able to purchase pdf reprints of old articles rather than entire magazines.
