The mailman just came and lo and behold the January 2005 copy of Model Railroader fell in my mailbox. How about that. Its only November 15 2004.
I won’t tell what’s in it tho.
I haven’t even got Decembers yet, lol.

Man, the Netherlands must have great mail service. I’m 90 miles from Milwaukee, haven’t gotten mine yet.
That is beyond comprehension. I’m sure mine won’t arrive until the 1st or 2nd, not that I am complaining.

Okay, I got December today. Takes the ponies a little longer to get to my house. (see the thread about the “seedy side of town.”)
That make the news in each issue not really news. Its belated.
Was probably beamed via satellite to an overseas printer.

This sure is strange that the January issue would be out so soon! Even on this MR site they are showing the December issue. Just got my December copy last week.

I just got my advance copy on my desk Friday, which means they’re definitely on their way to readers by now… but the Netherlands? I doubt that.
I did notice that the January issue includes an article about detailing an SD40-2. It’s written by a certain online chum of yours… [:o)]

Theres no way that the January 2005 issue is out.I know alot of people at the Kalmbach office,as well as a few people that work and print the MR and Trains in the Quad Graphics plant in Sussex,Wi. For a few years now I have been on the attack mode against the post office for delivering my issues in very poor condition. I have received them with more finger prints on it than my own,and certain pages with a few rips and folded pages. If this person “HAS” the January 2005 issue,then I want to see a scanned pix of the front cover. Seems to me this person might be pulling our leg. Secondly,if the issue is being mailed,then where is the caption of it on the Trains.com intro page ? Thirdly,at Trainfest,there was no January 2005 issue present at the Kalmbach booth.
The Model Railroader home page hasn’t been updated yet because the December issue is still on newsstands. Look for that update early next week.
Again, I got my copy of the January issue late on Friday afternoon. By that time, our Trainfest booth was already set up.

Nevertheless - my January 2005 issue arrived friday the 12th. ( in DENMARK! - maybe the small countries are served first :-)) - along with “Classic Trains”’ special edition “Streamliner Pioneers”. If anyone wants to check. the preview of the February 2005 MR issue is on page 122.
Apart from that I was surprised too as I would have expected it about Dec 1. , or maybe a few days before but not Nov. 12th.

I can imagine what happens (may not be necessarily true). The first batches of MR coming off the presses are airfreighted to a central point abroad and from there immediately distributed
to the vaious countries and since postal distribution in some of Europe’s countries is privatised it’s in their interest to get the mail to the adressee as rapidly as possible.
I wouldn’t mind getting my monthly copy later i.e. nearer tot the published month but then Kalmbach will have to instruct their distributors to hold distribution untill a certain date.
