Im just wondering how many people on this forum have been in MR?
My MA&G (earlier version) was featured in the April 2005 MR. The new layout will be in Great Model Railroads 2007 later this year. Having my work appear in the pages of MR was the realization of a childhood dream.
Two other forum members that quickly come to mind are Joe Fugate of Siskiyou fame and Bob Boudreau of Fundy Northern fame. I’m sure there are many others as well.
Cliff, let me say that I loved the MA&G. I am a big time fan of Big City railroading, so seeing it was almost a dream come true.
When was Joe’s layout featured?
Hey! Someone remembers! Thanks!
My HO scale modules were in cover articles I did and photographed, way back in July 1986 and June 1989. Here are the other times my stuff has appeared in MR over the years:

“Mansfield Junction” article October 1984;
Trackside Photos - March 1983, April 1984, July 1984, April 1985, and June 1986;
Photo Contest March 1986 - Third Place;
Photo Contest March 1987 - Cover Photo & Honorable Mention;
Trackside Photo February 1989;
Photo Contest March 1989 - First Place and cover;
Photo Contest March 1990 - Second Place;
Photo Contest March 1991 - Third Place;
Photo Contest March 1993 - Honorable Mention;
Trackside Photo December 1993;
Article on Nashwaak Valley layout of friend Ted Grey, April 1994;
Honorable Mention in Photo Contest, March 1995;
“Model of the Month”, June 1995 - exploded sawmill;
Trackside Photo, August 1995;
“Along the Line” photos, September 1995 and April 1996.
“Building a CN C-Liner Diesel” in the April 1999 issue.
“Model of the Month” – CN double ended plow, August 1999;
Trackside Photo September 1999. Trackside Photo, July 2002.
That’s it. So far anyway!

Bob, I specifically remember a Model of the Month you won which showed the interior of an engine shop of some kind. It was the most realistic thing I have ever seen. Which issue was it in? I would love to drool over it again!
I edited my previous post to include the Model of the Month entrants.

It’s one of my goals. But I feel like I’m walking in the land of giants here sometimes. C’mon, Bob, post the link to the machine shop again. It’s an inspiration to us all.
These are the only shots I currently have available through Photobucket:

Bob,
Your engine house was unbelievable in color - - but in black and white…
WOW!!!
I don’t ever recall such a realistic model photo. Simply amazing!

Bob, just a few days ago I was flipping through old MR’s and again saw your exploded sawmill. It was great. Your modeling is an inspiration to all who strive to achieve any sort of realism in model railroading. Thank you for sharing your photos and even more importantly, sharing your knowledge of modeling and photography.
Yoshi,
Joe’s layout was featured in the January and February 1997 issues of MR in a 2-part article entitled “Investigating the Mushroom”. It was a ground-breaking innovation then, and continues to be to this day.
I’m glad you enjoyed my original MA&G article…just wait till GMR ‘07!! As the old saying goes, "You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet"! [:p]
Take care.
Bob, your engine house, DUDE!!! (as the kids say) Awesome work! [bow][bow][bow]
Anyways, as soon as I get my layout done (trust me, it’ll be awesome) I hope for somebody to email MR Mag and tell them about “An Inspiring Layout, By a TEEN!” or something like that. Eh, it’s a dream of mine. [:)]

I got into this hobby when I was 12 years old and had a great exprience with modelrailroading. I always used to build the athearn cars and then I would put them on the track and see how they ran and right now they have been running so smoothly and sometimes I have to put washers on my train cars since the cars always wobbles adnthe DCC engine I have is very cool when you start the motor an dthe ditch light s turn on and they blink when I beep the horn on the locomotive. My favorite scale for this hobby is HO since it is more reliable than the other scales. So thats why I am a big fan of modelrailroading.
During the 1990’s MR ran a number of my shots in Trackside Photos, as well as one that placed in one Annual Photo Contest. Around the same time, I was asked by a staffer if I would be interested in having my layout considered for publication. I declined…it wasn’t as “finished” as I wanted it to be before making an appearance. A year later it was gone, torn it down to make room for a new concept. Probably missed my chance.

How do you get your layout in GMR? Maybe by GMR 2015 my layout (or next layout) will be done.
Hey guys,
I just want to say thanks to all of you super modellers that have made it into the mags. Your work is incredible. Thanks for sharing what you have done and offering all of your insight.
Someday, My skills may grow to the point that someone will want to put my work in a magazine. Until then, I’ll just enjoy doing what I do and striving to get better.
yeah
i dont have an article printed in MR or RMC but i do have several questions in MR since mid 99 mainly in the workshop column
tom
BTW, I also had an article in the March 2000 MR about my spline roadbed. And I’ve got the cover and an article on track ballasting and weathering in the upcoming Realistic Layouts special issue.
My layout was also in the September 1993 Railmodel Journal, with a 14-page photo update in the June 2005 Railmodel Journal.
And there are many other new and unique items from me coming soon via MR – I can’t divulge details yet, but suffice it to say, I’m very excited about it.
I’m in them all the time. All pages have finger prints on them![:D]
Seriously though, every one who gets published has done awesome work. I hope I can make the pages one day!
