My wife and I are moving to Raleigh, North Carolina, next week. I’m trying to find out about hobby shops in Raleigh and surrounding areas. Does anybody have any info about where to go, what kind of selection, etc.?
Thanks
Mike
Check the back of Model Railroader Mag. They have “member” hoby shops listed. I think there may be a spot on this forum to search too.
Good Luck!!
Go on the Internet and put in Raleigh N.C. under Yellow pages. Then type in “Hobby Shops”. Call around to see what they offer. There is a “Zak’s Hobby Shop” near me but it is basically a raceway for RC cars. You did not mention what scale you are interested in, but I also found a lot of stores deal only in the larger scales or Lionel exclusively. This is another reason for using the phone.
I did look in the back of the magazine and saw 1 or 2, and also searched on switchboard.com, as well, which showed several hobby shops, but didn’t really tell what they carried. I model in HO scale. Mainly I’m curious about which shops in that area do people especially like, or who has the best selection of products.
Thanks
WD45,
One of the best hobby shops in North Carolina is in Spencer, just off I-85, exit 79, across from the NC Transportation Museum. It’s called the Little Choo Choo Shop, Inc:

Don’t be put off by the name, it has a great stock, including lots of detail parts and books. If your wife is willing, she could tour the railroad museum while you raid the hobby shop.
