MODEL RAILROADING on TV

RFD-TV, which I get on channel 379, has a daily program of model railroading, or prototype railroading.

Does anyone know of other TV programs dedicated to model railroading or prototype railroading ?

PBS carries ‘Tracks Ahead’, but it’s purely up to the local PBS channel whether or not they’ve bought it for telecast. Our local PBS station hasn’t, they’re too busy running ‘self-improvement’ programs for post-menopausal bisexual vegans who are into Irish Dancing at ‘Save the Central Valley Snail’ rallies. However, THE TRAIN SHOW and GREAT LAYOUTS and TRAINS AND LOCOMOTIVES on RFD more than make up for it. Hopefully, RFD-TV might pick up TRACKS AHEAD, if we write and ask them nicely. They seem like really good people on that channel.

[(-D] Tom,
That’s hillarious… and true. Dave

Yes sir… PBS is a waste of time, except their’s. And yes RFD-TV is a good altenative all the way around for many subjects including trains.
In Deming, NM we get our DISH Network feed from channel 9409 for RFD. My in-laws told us about it and whow ! I was happy to see programing about rural life in general and the programs about old tractors are really cool !

Well, any other European readers shuld be able to get “Bahn TV” - channel run by the DB (German railways). Mix of prototype and some models, they also have a regular slot where they ask people to send in their railfan videos and show the best of them (they’re frequently better quality than normal TV!) as well as a slot where they show old publicity films - good for those of us interested in the DB of the 1950s/1960s. It’s on Astra 1b (satellite) for anyone else who can get that.

Yeah RFD TV is pretty cool trains and locomotives is a cool show, i dont waste my time with PBS

That is very funny! [(-D]

What channel is RFD
ive never heard of it before

also, does anyone know if Comcast carries it and if so what channel

Cox doesn’t carry RFD-TV. Too bad, I would have liked to watch the programs on model railroading. One more thing. . . Remember, our tax dollars go to fund those ‘self-improvement’ programs for post-menopausal bisexual vegans who are into Irish Dancing at ‘Save the Central Valley Snail’ rallies. Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.

My local PBS channel also run TRACKS AHEAD. But it hasn’t been on for awhile:-( TO me, I think I saw on PBS’s website that there making a new series for 2006. I don’t know.

If you get Directv you can catch tracks ahead on HDNET if you have HD or do a search for it.

I cant get RFD-TV because i have no cable or satalite or whatever it is but i do get PBS and my local station needs to get some train shows because i want to see what everyone is talkin about[:P][%-)]

I know that with Comcast you can get TA on the PBS HD channel (Channel 802)

Not anymore they don’t! Way to go Congress! But now we’ll have to put up with 10 times more Beg-athons.
Will someone PLEASE tell me what this RFD-TV is and how I can get it.

I happen to be a post-menopausal bisexual vegan who is into Irish Dancing at ‘Save the Central Valley Snail’ rallies, and i can tell you right now that i have never seen a program on PBS that has adressed any of this. all the funding is being wasted on those crazy lunatic model railroaders that spend all their time locked in a dank dimly lit basement slaving over small plastic trains and buckets full of half dry plaster…

OK not really but i had to run with it a little…[:D]

I’m with Adam on this one, there aren’t any train shows around Sykesville/Finksburg area. I don’t think there are any out here in Boonsboro either.

I enjoyed PBS for years…There were several model and prototype railroad shows on back in the early 90s, then it seemed to vanish. Though occasionally a rail related special is aired.

I still watch PBS if something intelligent comes on like “Travels in Europe”. But I don’t like the political stances that PBS “seems” to lean towards…yes, the extreme left. They seemed more neutral years back.

I saw one show of that Tracks Ahead. It was abou the Duluth area with the DM&IR mostly and some other stuff with the BNSF, UP, CP, and CN, also some regional railroads.

Wish it was on more and regularly.

The History channel ran a program last week about inventions that won the west inclduing several regarding trains including air brakes. Travel channel has had several programs recently about the American Orient Express also.

What do you mean HALF-dry plaster? Out here in the Central Valley (where we’re all committed to saving snails), it’s so hot in the summer that the stuff dries to a brick the minute you mix it, LOL! And whoever heard of a dank basement in CALIFORNIA!? I’d give my eyeteeth and sell my first-born to have a dank basement. By the way, if you’re really into Irish Dancing, I can sell you my ex-wife’s Clogs. Cheap.
