Model Railroading With John Allen (the book)

I recently posted in the JA thread my email I sent to Kalmbach regarding reprinting his book. I think it got buried in there with all the other posts. Long story short they said it is out of print (as we already know) and that they have no current plans on reprinting it. They did however forward my email to their book department. Maybe if we can show Kalmbach that there is still an interest in this particular book, they will reprint it for us. Here is their reply:

Dear Jason Guess:

Thank you for inquiry!

Unfortunately, Model Railroading w/ John Allen is out of print and no longer available. We do not have plans to reprint this title. When we receive requests for an out of print book, we share the request with our Books Department; however, there are many reasons why a book may not be reprinted. Your e-mail will be shared with the Books Department as another request. If you wish to contact someone directly and find out further detail, please phone 262-796-8776 and ask for the Books Department. Listed below are different internet sources we are aware of that will search for out of print books, should you be interested in researching your request further:

www.Amazon.com
www.bn.com
www.abebooks.com
www.harvestbooks.com
www.alibris.com

If we may be of further assistance, email customerservice@kalmbach.com, phone 800-533-6644 or fax 262-796-1615. Customers outside the U.S. and Canada may contact us at 262-796-8776, ext. 661. Thank you.

I just posted the following this AM!!#### Re: LOOK at John Allens picture on page 88 of the NEW MRR (SEE IT)

Isn’t it time that Kalmbach published a book abour John & the G&D? It’s got my vote!!

I agree it should be in print. But I won’t be a customer because I bought mine in hardcover the last time they printed it.

Now if they expanded it by including JA’s articles in MR then I’d be interested.

Enjoy

Paul

I would also like to see JA’s articles in print. It would be even better if we could get a book that had ALL his articles to include the NMRA Bulletins, RMC, MR and any other publication he was featured in. I really would like to get a new copy of his book simply because I bought a used one from an online dealer that was in ok shape, and I’ve worn it pretty thin. The cheapest I’ve found it online is $90 and it only goes up from there. I can’t justify to myself, let alone my wife why I need to buy another one. But a fresh copy would be nice to have.

The next best thing to having it is being able to read it. If your public library does not have it, it is readily available through Interlibrary Loan. It’s free to read. I got mine in about a week and had it for three weeks.

I know many people just don’t do the the library thing.

I got mine from Amazon.com some years ago in hard cover. I just checked and they still have it but it’s pricey. $100 and up for hard cover (used) and from $57 new and used in paper back.
