Just got an email from Model RR news that they are shutting down immediately. It will be missed. It seems the economy isn’t as good as they say. I think this is the 3rd RR magazine to go under in the last few years.
There was another thread started on this topic last Friday: http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/200042.aspx
Although I am not familiar with the magazine:
The printed media industry is hurting, both because of the economy and because of costs, and also because of electronic publishing.
So many people do so much online now that anything printed on paper is on its way out. I think that is sad as I like to take my mags to the DR.s office to read while I wait. I MAY buy a tablet WHEN I am “forced to”, or they get “perfected”, or become cheaper {although that is happening now with competittion}.
The younger generation looks online, or for “an APP for that” on their smart phones. Meanwhile my “regular” cell phone is only used for emergencies, only makes phone calls, is SUPPOSed to be able to “text” {I don’t know how}, but DOESN’T “do” web searching! I am a dinosaur!
Right now many online publications are free as they have pop-up and other margin advertisers to cover costs, but like the Satellite radio, and the cable TV, they will eventually start charging for something for the “free stuff”.
Life as we know it is changing. “Times, they are achanging!”
