Model Tech Studios

Is anyone familiar with Model Tech Studio kits? Their 3D kits look prefect for my around the room shelf layout. What do you guys think?

The seem to have some great detail products for a decent price, like the pallets and barrels. I keep forgetting to have my LHS order some to see what the actual quality is. I have found that the pictures sometimes aren’t exactly what you get.

I have built their “Rosco’s Engine Repair” and really liked the kit for the most part. After weathering it ala George Sellios, it looks great. There are a few photos of it on my MA&G website (see link below).

I did have to alter the kit a bit, though. For one thing, the rafter tails were WAY too big and thick. I replaced the strip wood provided with my own smaller, more scale stock. Also, the windows and frames are laser cut from thin cardstock. This really presented no construction problems, but I expected them to be cut from wood as on most other laser kits. Just be careful when painting not to warp them! Also, the sheet stock used for the roof was too thick in my opinion, but I used it anyway - you can minimize this visually through trim and roofing material.

I bought mine through Valley Model Trains for a little over $100. With some signs and weathering, it can be a real attention-getter. Check out my website under the “Edna” photo album and see what you think.

Best of Luck with your modeling!!!

I have an N-scale passenger station with a freight wing and passenger wing, as well as a mission-style church waiting for assembly. I saw the passenger station at a train show already built and it looked good, but I did not get a chance to talk to the guy to find out if there was much labor put into it beyond construction and painting to make it look the way it did. Guess I’ll find out the old-fashioned way.
