Model Trains Help

Being new to model trains, I find that there is a lot to learn. I discovered the above web site and wonder if anyone has used the book. It looks very informative but not sure if it’s worthwhile.

[#welcome] MRG,

What book are you talking about? Also what size trains do you model?

Lee F.

My guess is he’s talking about the magazine… CTT?

It’s called Model Train Help by Robert Anderson at model-train-help.com.

Running O trains by MTH and wanting to set up a layout instead of just Christmas…realize I am at ground zero!

If you subscribe to CTT mag they have a few track plans through out the year in there, sometimes one or two track plans an issue. Or you can buy a book on track layouts from the publishers of CTT.

I agree with purchasing a CTT (Kalambach) book. I have ‘Realistic Model Railroad operation’, and it is very well done! But remember…these are ‘toy’ trains! You don’t necessarily need to know operations to have a great time.

Also, check out the All Gauge Page: http://www.thortrains.net/

For some people a book on layouts is great. I mainly do what you may call free-lance layout design, I make my own design and follow track laying suggestions for spacing two tracks apart on curves. I have made some track supports from dowel rods and put screws in at both ends for supporting an 027 track that is on the second level, just have to watch the spacing on the bottom side for the dowel rods so the locomotives don’t hit them. The track that I support is only half of the 027 run so it is screwed down to plywood sheet on the other end.
