IIRC, the runaway sequence was filmed at the Pasadena MRC. I remember seeing it last in the mid 1970’s. It was made by our hosts, Kalmbach, and was available as a loan for clubs, shows, and similar venues, for free. I believe that it proved so popular, that many copies got worn out over the years.
Isn’t this the one Chooch is currently selling (and advertising) on DVD?
I wonder what has happened to the films Kalmbach used to lend back in the 1950s. I think one was called Fun With Model Trains and the other was, if memory serves, Along the Right of Way. When I was a boy our church borrowed the films for “father and son” nights. The priest at that time was an HO model railroader. Even then the films seemed old – sort of like the educational films we’d see at school – but still mesmerizing to a kid.
If I’m not mistaken, that’s Ward Kimball blowing the dust off of the locomotive in the hilarious prologue. He was a great promotor of the hobby and one genuinely neat guy.
Loved the guy running under the layout. He reminds me of myself, LOL!
