Modelers beware

Just heard yesterday that an area model shop here (DuPage county in Illinois) was robbed recently of much of its impressive inventory and you modelers should be alert for some “too good to be true” deals on such items on the market in your areas.

The bad thing about robberies like this is the CRACK HEADS that did it don’t know what the stuff is worth and much of it ends up in a dumpster. Liers and theives!!! I don’t know which ones I HATE worse!!!

Since it’s public knowledge, don’t you think it might be wise to post what store it was and possibly what was taken so people might be a little more aware of what to look for rather than running around screaming that the sky is falling?

Bad Neutrino. You are hereby reduced to a quark.

The same thing could be said about your response, selector.

Could be sold anywhere…probably ebay.

Look up “ad hominem”.

We try, most of us, to work together to keep this a trouble-free site. Since I post here regularly, I feel I have a responsibility to do my part when I see something wrong. What do YOU do?

-Crandell

Since you mentioned “ad hominem” , let’s take your respose to Neutrino’s post.

First part “Bad Neutrino”: You have taken it upon yourself to instantly change the subject of the topic and place focus on the poster and not the poster’s topic. Then a declaration is made “You are hereby reduced to a quark” totally disregarding the posters topic and instead insulting the poster.

The second part then goes on to insult the poster even further, as if the poster is below your intellectual level and needs a translation in the first place. At no time in your post is there any refference to the topic at hand, yet you admoni***he poster for not making any helpful contribution.

Maybe it is you who should look up “ad hominem”.

Did the hobby shop specialize in any hobby or niche in a particular hobby, such as brass, RC cars and planes. Unless they specialized in high ticket hobby items otherwise loathar is probably right that it was drug addicts. Your LHS isn’t going to have a lot of money or easily moveable items that can bring decent money on the black market in a hurry and I think anything truly specialized and expensive would be well known and possibly that much harder to unload profitably.

Information on the store location could be a help to modellers in that particular area. Checking out pawn shops etc; - and keep a look out for anything suspicious. We are supposed to be a helping community …right ?

AHAHAHA YESSSSS!!!
i love when smart ***es get TOLD !!! its gives me a warm fussy feeling just knowing the person is sitting there EATING their words !!!

but any how… thats to bad about the hobby shop, but i also think ebay would be the place where they would be sold !! im sure the person who robbed the place isnt a big modeler and wouldnt have alot of friends that are… now, if the trains were crack, he might have better luck selling them on the street haha !

I would post signs around telling of the stolen propety
turn the heat on and check ebay for key items

whats a ad hominem

It’s what you do once the water is boiling.

Then serve with butter and a little sugar.

I live in DuPage county, Illinois. Was it Al’s Hobby Shop? America’s Best Train & Hobby? The best hobby shop in metro Chicago is Des Plaines Hobby, (IMO)but that’s in Cook County. I’ll ask owners of Best Train tomorrow if they heard anything, or if in fact it was them. How much was stolen? Drug users / dealers wouldn’t bother with a hobby shop. Musical instruments would fetch a much higher price for them. Or they would hijack a truckload of cigarettes.

Why, it’s a printed advertisement for Hominem, of course. [:o)][:o)]

It’s actually a rhetorical or logic term for a type of debate argument. If you ignore the substance of the opponent’s reasoning, and instead start to attack or insult the person speaking, you’re making an “ad hominem” argument. It’s usually advised as a type of argument to avoid.

Heh heh, that’s a good one.[:D] Bring a little easiness to the topic of “Ad Hominems,” especially since it sort of blew up right out of the gate…

Actually, it served it purpose very well. You’ll notice that the responder didn’t address my retort, but continued with yet another ad hominem. They’re hard to resist once you get used to using them.

-Crandell

I’d advise against responding to supercilious forum members in the first place…[}:)]
