Modeler’s spotlight video for August 20, 2009 – Inside Cody’s office

I found the tour of the Roundhouse really interesting. Is there any chance that one of your office segments could focus on computer design options. I don’t have room for a layout, but would love to plan one using a CAD program and would love to know what is out there.
Thanks!

Thanks again Cody,
I think things like extruded foam and homasote are US location spacific. In the South West of the US (Arizona) it seems extruded foam and homasote are not stocked or evan sold in places like Home Depot etc. We most store do have bead/foam board but as we all know this is a poor poor product for modle railroads.

Either way, Thanks

Hi Cody. This is a reply to Eric G. Hall of Arizona. Eric, Hi. About 4 years ago, when I was living in Phoenix, I built a small railway using the pink foam board sheets. I found them at several Home Depots in Phoenix. They didn’t have the 2", but they did have the 1" X 2’X8’ panels. That was then, but perhaps their supplies were simply sold out when you last checked, and they might have restocked? Just a thought. Good luck finding some. It’s a great way to do scenery. Ken S.

Enjoy your shows, first thing I watch or read on this site.
Northern Calif also doesn’t seen to stock the foam anywhere as a regular item. Found one store that had some blue foam in a 1 ft. x 4 ft. pieces they had ordered for model aircraft builders $28.00 a sheet ! So I got some brown ? foam and will try that.
Keep up the good and interesting show. See you next month.

Uh oh, Cody. They’re crackin on yer beard already. Getting a head start for winter?

I laughed out loud! Thanks for the outtake. Also enjoyed the prototype tour, but it could have been longer. What do they do in the roundhouse for one? I’ll bet there is a lot of tape that wasn’t used that you could make into a couple more shows.

To Eric in Arizona, if you’re ever in LA there are a few foam stores that cater to the entertainment industry and they carry the pink and blue foam. I know it’s not close, but if you have to make a trip anyway, you can pick some up. If you’re interested and you see this, email me and I can send you the names of the places.

What do you guys do with the stuff sent in for review after you review it?

Another great show cody, Im’ always looking forward to watching your videos every week. I was wondering if u’d be able to make your show longer so that all of your fans (including me) can enjoy more of what we love. Happy modeling to you Cody.

One commenter mentioned the Dream Plan Build DVD series. I am also a subscriber to those. It would be extremely nice if Cody would give a preview of the next disc in Cody’s Office here or in the monthly MR.

Great show. Highlite of Thursday. Was that the 101st use for a pot topper? See you next week.

I enjoy the various video layout tours you present each
month.

thanks!!

Nice Video, train look very realistic.

Howdy Cody;
I really enjoyed your little growth comment at the end of the video.
Have a great day and keep up the great program.

Hey Cody,

Great shows also like the humor.
Are there any articles available regarding building the drop down bridge between the WSOR and MR&T? That is exactly what I need to enter my layout room

Dear Cody;
I enjoy the videos a lot. Question-1, At some time is Model Railroader going to offer a collection of the videos on a DVD to purchase. I belong to a club and we would like to show the videos at our meetings.
Question-2 I really liked the Desk Top Pictures offered in previous E-Mails. Are there more pictures coming in future issues?
I like what you are doing at Model Railroader. I find your articles very helpful.
Thank You.

Cody:
Another great video and out take!
While your operations are based in the midwest, do you have any future plans on touring Baltimore’s B&O museum some day?

I thought I saw some DC locomotives offered with sound. Are there any out there without the expense of DCC?

Best Regards!

Eric and Ken

Regarding pink foam in Arizona. Our club, the Gilbert (town in Arizona) Model Railroad Club, seems to have bought the last of it in this area about a year and half ago. The home stores said they weren’t selling enough to keep it in stock. We order our homasote in bulk from California. Roy’s Train World in Mesa has some homasote. Our HO club’s membership is open.

Your new track work book – excellent. Thank you.
