Just a tech point for you folks… When I was watching the running of the SD70 the sound of the train was weak compared to your voice Cody, I have also noticed this on others too.,
You might wish to look into this as it is a shame to miss the sounds coming from the engines.
Thanks guys, Another good episode.
I really liked the info on the scratch built station. Do you have any more tips on scratch building you would like to share? Also, how do you get information for buildings to scratch build, i.e. stations, depots, and other structures?
Thanks, hope to see you at the iHobby expo.

Hello oh bearded wonder!
YES KEEP IT …
I was wondering if your Cody’s Office theme music fills the halls of Kalmbach as you walk to your office at the start of the segments. It seems like you are walking to the beat of the music (sort of) or do you just have a natural rythm to your gait?
Does “101 More Track Plans for Model Railroaders” include the plan for the ‘layout with a helper grade’ published in the November 1974 MR at about page 64? I have a very poor photocopy of the plans of the two levels which is now nearly unreadable.
The layout was stated to be 12 feet wide but was 13 feet wide by 15 feet. (Wide was from top to bottom of the page.)
I had a copy of the issue but it has been hiding for some years.
In the early 1960s I built a shelf layout from the first edition of “101 layouts”, it was the 16 foot long shelf layout with a yard running to a wharf on the lower level and a grade to a junction with the upper level with a mine at one end and the outside world connection via a bridge at the other.
Enjoyed the show as usual. If possible, could you show something about building an N scale passenger car using Union Station (plastic sides) and/or M&R etched brass car sides (from N Scale Supply. I’ve seen the finished products in pictures but I guess that there has to be some techniques that aren’t really described in the instructions. Thanks again for your informative shows.
Cody, David & Co.
Good episode this week. We missed you last week. Is there any way to post a notice when you will not have an episode so we don’t have to return 4 or 5 times checking for it?
Thanks, Mark
Hey Cody,
Speaking of paint booths, years ago MR published plans on how to build a paint booth out of sheet metal. Any idea what year and issue that was? I’d like to get a back issue if possible.
Thanks Cody, great work. “Large structure” is sort of an understatement! Will we get to see it finished, on a layout? And yes, keep the beard. Doesn’t look like the trees have changed much up in Milwaukee. Come down to Illinois for some real color. Will be ordering the book now. Always room for another track plan missive. Love the turbo whine on the SD70ACe.
Being a South Texas N scale modeler, watching your show adds the human element to my hobby.
Always fun and informative.
I saw some of the MRRM staff on a TV show on DIY. I suspect since I can not find any information, that it was just a filler and maybe an older broadcast. Can you tell me if I am correct?

The SD 70 is a great looking model, BUT once again the Soundtraxx Tsunami disappoints. Even with my volume turned up to maximum I could barely hear it. I do not think it is a problem with the video reproduction. I have recently purchased the Athearn Genesis GP 15-1 which also features a Soundtraxx Tsunami. No matter what changes I make to the different CV’s I can still brely hear the loco if it is more than 10 feet away. Jarrette Ireland from Soundtraxx was not very helpful with the problem either. It seems that the factory fitted sound decoders(done in China) are substandard. In future I will be sticking to the industry leader in sound… QSI Industries. Take my advice and save your money for a quality sound decoder.
Cody–Back in the mid 1970’s I built an O scale wooden roundhouse for Kent and his Dad, Carl, so we have more in common than just great beards! Give Kent my best and I look forward to seeing you both again at Trainfest next month.
Cody, I have to say I ‘lorn’ something new every time I watch your show! I loved the looks of the SD70ACe model. As a professional engineer the SD70ACe and the SD70M-2 are two of my favorite engines to run. I call them ‘cadalacs’ because they are more comfortable than others. I plan on purchasing a couple of these models but will probably purchase the non-sound equipped models and use either Lok Sound or QSI decoders. Since you were close to the model does the Soundtraxx decoder do the engine justice?
The tip about drilling a hole in the wall for gluing the medallions was on of the V-8 moments. You know, when you see something for the first time that you realize is so obvious, you can’t believe you never thought of it before.
Cody, another great episode as always with alot of great modling tips for bracing large structures, these techniques can be used for scratch building as well. The Athearn Genises did not sound as loud as I expected, but the computer speakers are not that great anyway. I think with f6 on your DCC controler, you can ramp the volume up or down to your personal likeness. I always lorn alot from the videos keep up the great work.
