Modeler’s spotlight video for October 22, 2009 – Inside Cody’s office

thanks Cody for another great vid and how to i was wondering can i get the same effect with a pencil to do the holes in the ties? thanks again from chris

O’ Cody what a let down…Stick on paper for the grain cars :frowning: I was hopeing that you had some sort of great decal idea! Seems the hardest color to do for decals is white and seems most all railroad lettering is done in white.

Myabe you can give us some cheap tips and Ideas for white decals.

Thanks

Thanks for sharing the Photoshop tip along with the modeler’s tip. Another Great Show!

Paper instead of decals, very creative! Keep up the good work Cody!

Hey Cody! Great show as always! You know all the project layouts you guys have built over the years? Where do they go? Are they dismantled, donated or kept in a storage room? I’m not referring to the WSOR (on the MR&T), the Beer Line (still going strong) or the Turtle Creek Central (which I see will be featured in next month’s issue). I’m referring to the other ones like the Cripple Creek Central (1991-3), the Black River Junction (2007) or Appalachian Central (2000).

It was very suprizing to learn that those hopper cars were little more than a regular hopper car, some paper, some computer editing, and several pieces of tape. Who would have thought that it was that simple!

You guys are so funny! I love the “Silent Movie” at the end! Also last week’s “Cody Reality Show” – you must have such fun making these things! I visited your offices recently, which has made the whole thing very much more real for me. Many thanks to Andy Sperandeo for showing us through, and the opportunity to meet Cody, Dana and David. It’s really fun now watching and reading your webcasts and magazine, since we came all the way from New Zealand and could see it “in real”. Now all I have to do is to find time to make some more models …
Cheers and thanks again,
Craig Utting

Cody,

I have seen a few people with Red and white stars next to their names on the website. What are the stars for? How do the Stars get Canged from White to Red? Who can change or vote on the stars?

great show always look foward to the next one.

Thought the segment on the opening was ???. Hey, now think about it, I may do that for some my home cars. They may look good in the backgroung in one of my yards and cost next to nothing.

Don’t wont someone to look to closely… now I think about it, didn’t Mantua, Walthers, Ulrick and others do the same back in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.

As Tony Koester once commented " I don’t have to super-detail every car…no one will notice the missing bits if the obvious ones are there." or something similar.

Hey, great show Cody

i’m gonna say that discarded tie technique was great and i’m going to use it on my layout. One question, do know how far away the protypical railroads place the sign that signals for an airhorn for grade crossings, and how far is that in N scale.
thanks and keep up the good work.

thank you for some very good work ,I look forward to because they are very good.

I’ve been enjoying the tips on your segments. The hopper cars are a clever way to open them. Now, could you lose the wacky music? It’s 2009! Something a bit more contemporary might work well.
cheers,

ps. Is the World’s Greatest Hobby promo still going? I did several “railroad days” at my daughter’s elementary school which the kids loved. I got GO Transit in, Via rail, and CN gave a safety lecture. I got WGH brochures for every child (over 500) that came through. And yes, even the girls liked the trains (though there isn’t one girl in any of their literature). I hope they continue to find ways to promote the hobby to kids.

Cody,
Another good episode of Cody’s Office.
Oh by the way is it true you have decided to dress up as Brett Farve the MINNESOTA VIKING this year for Halloween?
Mark

I guess the real question is how long it will be before Cody’s face shows up on a real covered hopper. — Keith Thompson

Good topic and can’t wait to try my hand at doing something like this with various cars.

So, when can we expect decal sets for the “hosted by” lettering with Cody’s likeness?

I tried watching the video a couple of times. I’m getting as far as the HO Scale 72’ Pullman when Cody starts to show the owner applied decals, then it freezes. Is it me, or is it the video?
Thanks.
