Modeler’s Spotlight Video – Inside Cody’s Office for April 2014
Another great episode, Cody. I did see a brief segment with you using the Shaper Sheets and will be watching for the upcoming segments you mentioned. It sure looks like a product I will want to try.
Schnibbles? Cody is that a real word or did you make it up?
I like the new opening for Cody’s Office. The “rogue boxcar” opening was fun at first but clearly had run its course and I found myself fast forwarding through it every episode. You could also find new music for the intro and get no complaints from me.
Thanks for the info this episode. The styrene sheet road will also work great in N Scale.
Great show. Like the new beginning.
Cody, when were the full-sized MP, C&EI, TP and C&NW hoppers modeled by ExactRail built? What commodities would be loaded from the Walthers loading racks, and into what types of cars? The extra sprue with the MicroTrains flatcar has stakes, not stake pockets.
Should we go back to the old introduction for better luck?
I noticed the Exact Rail hoppers (early in video) the trucks are molded the same color as the car? What’s up with that? I have never seen anything like that rolling down the tracks in real life, is this something new or they cutting cost on manufacturing the models?
Cody,
It looks like the flatcar comes with a sprue of stakes, not a sprue of stake pockets. It looks like the stake pockets are already molded into the side of the flatcar.
I really like the new opening!

Cody, I am curious who makes the straightedge you used to score and scribe the styrene road. Is it available through Walthers?
Hi Cody! I dare you to say shaper sheets 3 times REAL fast! lol
Cody, where can someone find a straight edge like the one you used to score the styrene? Thanks
Hi Cody, I have a Marklin starter set and some other Marklin equipment, but I want to expand. It’s hard to do this, however, since almost no one carries that brand and it can get costly when I do find anything, not to mention Marklin has 3-rail operation instead of 2. Is there a way to convert 2-rail motive power and rolling stock to Marklin style 3-rail operation?
Cody
Great episode. I had a question regarding the Rice Harbor layout:
I’ve recently installed the N-Scale version of the Walthers Built-Up Turntable … works great. I was wondering if you could give us a close up of the turntable in your Rice Harbor layout. I’m specifically looking for the techniques you used to weather and detail the turntable to blend it into the scene. Also, seeing how you detailed and weathered the bottom of the turntable pit (knowing you have to be extremely careful around the pivot point for the bridge and the rail. Hope to see some info in a future episode of Cody’s Office.
Thanks for your help.
Hi Cody , Vern from Texas asked about available Coke loads. A great substitute is granulated charcoal available in packets from aquatic supply centres. It is used in fish tank filtration. Hope this helps and keep up the great job you are doing.
Cody, will there be a layout tour of the Millwaukee,Racine & Troy anytime soon?
'nother nice video. re: the out takes - It’s nice that you pronounce out “three thousand seven hundred and thirty seven” but most of us just call them a “thirty seven thirty seven”. Might save some tongue twisting
Good afternoon,
There have been some questions regarding the straightedge I used in the video. It is Lufkin item no. S-572 (stainless steel printer’s hook rule). I couldn’t find it listed on the Lufkin website. However, you might be able to find a similar rule at a well-stocked art supply or graphic design shop.
Thanks for watching.

Matthew Cone. I have Marklin as well. There are a few of us in North America. I have converted 2 rail to 3 rail but it is challenging. Have you checked out MTH? They do NA motive power in 3 rail. Perhaps Cody can connect us and we can chat.
Hi Cody, Love the new intro to Cody’s Office, I hope the famous freight car has been honourably retired? Keep up the fantastic work!
